The Nelson-Tasman
area offers plenty to see and experience. It is well known for
it’s beautiful nature, beaches and a sunny climate the whole
year round.
An historic and idyllic location is Upper
Moutere village (formerly
Sarau) with the first Lutheran church in NZ. German settlers founded
it in the 1850’s. Worth a visit are the historic cemetery
and the general local store with its delicious real fruit ice
cream. In the Old Post Office they produce and sell Moutere
Gold Preserves and Fine Foods. Neudorf, formerly a small settlement
that had it’s own Wyperserfontein Hotel, kept its German
name. Along Neudorf road on the way to the Gingerbread House you
will find the internationally respected Neudorf
Vineyard and the new Neudorf
Dairy where sheep’s cheeses are handcrafted. The Moutere
Hills is home to many award winning wineries, such as the Moutere
Hills, Kahurangi
Estate and Glovers. The Sunset
Valley Vineyard produces organic wine.
